8 days Casablanca to Marrakech desert tour itinerary:
Day 1: Casablanca – Fez:
8 days Casablanca to Marrakech desert tour departure: Our private tour begins with a pick up from the airport/Port/Hotel in Casablanca. Before we leave for Fes – The spiritual capital of Morocco, we will cover the main cultural and historical sites in Casablanca. Our journey will take us via the motorway to Fes. Overnight in Fes.
Day 2: Fes Guided City Tour:
We will start the day exploring the oldest city in Morocco, snaking through its alleys and narrow streets. We will begin the sightseeing at the Royal Palace gate, followed by the Jewish headquarter – the first Mellah ever built in Morocco, during the 16th century. We will ensure that you visit all sites with cultural and historical interest including the famous Al Qaraouine University, the oldest in the region. We will also visit the Tanneries, the Attarine Museum, and the Moulay Idriss mausoleum. After lunch, you will visit many different cooperatives and then, experience a wonderful panoramic view over the whole Medina of Fes before ending the night at your Riad.
Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Merzouga:
After breakfast at your hotel in Fes, we will leave for Merzouga through the Mid-Atlas region passing via Ifrane, the “Switzerland” of Morocco. Next, we will drive a bit further to explore the cedar forests of Azrou, where you can stop to feed the apes. We will then continue to Midelt where we may have lunch and then follow the Ziz River to Ziz Gorge (valley). Our drive proceeds across the Ziz Valley, Erfoud, and Rissani where we will stop to explore the souk (local market). Our day comes to a close as we arrive in Merzouga, spending the night at a local hotel.
Day 4: Merzouga Desert:
After breakfast, we’ll head out to the desert. We will spend the day exploring the desert region and The Erg Chebbi Dunes. Our desert sightseeing will take us to the captivating contrast of the Moroccan nomadic (Berber) way of life. From there we will pay a visit to the “black village” of Khamlia, where we will enjoy a show by the renowned Gnawa musicians, followed by a traditional Berber pizza for lunch in the area. Our afternoon will be spent riding camels and enjoying the sunset on the dunes before heading to our camp. There, we’ll be treated to a traditional tagine dinner, drink delicious local mint tea, and delight in traditional Berber music underneath the star and moonlit sky of the wondrous Sahara Desert.
Day 5: Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges – Skoura:
Wake up early in the morning to attend and enjoy a spectacular sunrise, when the color of the dunes and the play of shadows are an awesome sight. Set up over the dunes, waiting for the sun to rise, and meanwhile feeling the cold morning breeze are feelings you will not find elsewhere but here in the Desert. After that, you have your yummy breakfast and get ready to leave the Desert for Skoura. We will pick you up with a 4×4 jeep to meet the driver and head off to our next destination. Our journey will lead us to drive via a number of villages and towns along the road. Not far away from Merzouga, we will stop in Sijilmasa which is one of the oldest cities in Morocco. If our trip coincides with the day market of the town (Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday), a visit is worth it. Later on, we go ahead with our adventure to Todra Gorges, a paradise site for rock climbers and hikers. We will stop at the site to explore its high cliffs. Subsequently, we will follow our passion towards our destination Skoura driving through Dades and Rose Valley. Rose Valley is famous for producing different products of rose such as rose water, rose cream, and rose oil…we carry on our trip to Skoura Oasis where to spend overnight in one of its riads.
Day 6: Skoura – Ait Benhadou – Atlas Mountains – Marrakesh:
Right after your breakfast at the hotel/Riad, we meet you at the lobby by 8 am and start our adventure to the red city Marrakech. We will drive via the city of Ouarzazate where to stop to take pictures of Kasbah Taourirt. After doing so, we take our direction towards the Kasbah Ait Benhadou. This latter is a UNESCO heritage and is a chosen backdrop for many Hollywood movies such as Kingdom of Heaven, Ali Baba, and The Forty Thieves… It is an iconic vestige that will take us back to the ancient eras of the country, the time of salt and gold trade… our trip continues to Marrakech via the enormous landscape of the Atlas Mountains. Along the drive, we pass through a windy road with an altitude of 2260m. We will stop on the road for lovely panoramic views. Late afternoon, we arrive at Marrakech and drop you off at the hotel.
Day 7: Explore Marrakech:
Today we’ll have a guided tour of Marrakesh. You will explore the main attractions and monuments of the city including the famous Jamaa El Fna square, Koutoubia Mosque, the souks, palaces, and museums. Overnight in a fantastic riad in the old medina of Marrakech.
Day 8: Marrakech – Casablanca airport:
Today depends on your flight schedule. Given the time, you may spend the afternoon discovering the less touristic areas of Marrakesh and enjoying lunch at a local restaurant before being transferred to your hotel/airport where our service ends.
